Emily Monahan-Morang, LMHC
(she/her)
Emily currently is a licensed psychotherapist who has an interest in working with high
performers/achievers - perfectionism (e.g., student-athletes, STEM industry, healthcare,
academia), neurodivergent (e.g., high masking diagnosed or suspected ADHD and/or Autism, mild-moderate OCD, typically AFAB), and LGBTQIA+ populations. Emily primarily works with graduate students, young professionals, and professionals. She mainly has experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions (e.g., transition to adulthood, stress management, grief, identity exploration and development), and providing affirmation around neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ identities. Emily’s style is considered direct, honest, and blunt with an autonomous structure to her sessions.
Emily’s aim in her work is to empower clients to reach their potential by meeting people where they are at in life. She believes the therapeutic process is collaborative in nature as she helps guide clients towards an empowered sense of self. Emily works from a strengths-based perspective that is person-centered, culturally informed, and trauma informed.
Emily pulls from an array of therapeutic modalities that include but are not limited to:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Parts work (e.g.,
inner child work, Internal Family Systems), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and informed by Feminist & Systems Theory and Polyvagal Theory.
In addition to her counseling background, she also has master’s level education and training in Sport & Performance Psychology. She has worked with individuals and teams at the collegiate level and within the military. Sport & Performance work being defined as but not limited to: Energy management, attention control, motivation, imagery, goal setting, confidence, and team culture. Emily recognizes she won’t be the best fit for every client, as every client is a unique individual as with each psychotherapist. The therapeutic relationship being one of the most significant factors in client’s growth and healing (peterattiamd.com/finding-the-right-fit-in-a-psychotherapist).
